Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor, is written by Matthew Stover, the author who’s also behind the Revenge of the Sith novelization which I think was his best book, but not to say this book isn’t as good, the story is a thrill-ride. Perhaps the self-conscious homage to a particular style, and that prevented it from being quite what it might have on its own terms.

What are you, in high school? Stover has written minodr of the most well-received Star Wars novels ever published. He had taken away her sight, cut away her hearing, erased her senses of smell and taste and touch. The epilogue offers apology in the way of suggesting that what you’ve read is the story submitted by the investigator to Luke.
Most would classify Luke Skywalker as a hero, the hero of the main Star Wars saga, except for Skywalker himself in this book. It made them seethe with anger. The book did what SW books needed the most: But this shqdows really matter — there isn’t a coherent story in the post-RotJ EU that hhe a frame that is overarching rather than episodic.

If anything, this is the book’s greatest strength. Lost Tribe of the Sith: Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader are dead. I just loved him; he was overtly and purposefully two-dimensional for a good bit of the book, and we find out just in time that, yes, he does have a ton of depth going on there.
If I have one complaint, it’s that there’s not quite enough of this book, but I’m not sure if that’s a valid criticism.
It was kind of all of that. At one point, it’s revealed that our heroes from the movies are the subjects of badly written, highly inaccurate, pulpy and best-selling accounts of their exploits in overthrowing the Empire. It started out strong. This novel does have its drawbacks, among them a few minor continuity gaffes and an annoyingly open-ended conclusion.
Has much in common with two of Stover’s previous works in this setting, with multiple characters from Shatterpoint appearing and various themes from it and the Revenge of the Sith novelization recurring. Everything from characters that pop up at random to the main antagonist. The backdrop for the battle between the New Republic and Blackhole?
However, this style feels weird in SW. Back then, a seeming horde of novels were tossed off, one after the other, ,uke all the primary Star Wars characters were thrown into some calamatous peril, then worked together to take down the villain of the month.
He does not fear it, but neither does he embrace it.
Few authors understand Star Wars. And that there are very few entities I love as much as I do Han and Leia. Gone is the past, he remembered Master Yoda saying once. When was the last time you heard of a battle went exactly as planned? The story opens after the Battle of Mindor, with a distraught Luke Skywalker asking Lorz Geptun one of several Shatterpoint alums andd here to investigate his actions during the battle and determine whether Skywalker should be indicted as mmindor war criminal.
One year later, it all becomes clear. I tried really hard. He definitely gave them the respect that Traviss wrote them with and yet, didn’t mind having Han take some jabs at them.
With the focus of his early life – his father and the evil Emperor – removed, the young Jedi Knight is struggling to see meaning and light in his existence, and the novel is ultimately about his attempts to find purpose in the shadow of war, loss and self-doubt. Either way, the Imperials are certainly responsible for leading the heroes into a multi-layered and appreciably devious trap, and doing so with a combination of parade flourish and black-clad vilainy, and that contribution to the story alone would be more than enough to make them great Star Wars adversaries.
Luke is kinder, more humble, more protective but not possessive. Instead he goes to Vader, and turns himself in. This cold, though [unlike nearly freezing to death on Hoth], froze him without the comfort of numbness.
