Archer discovers that his seemingly straightforward murder investigation is closely related to this plot—and he becomes deeply involved in the dangerous action that follows. I don’t particularly care for alternate history, there are too many good real history and historical fiction out there to spend time reading about things that didn’t happen. The King is imprisoned in the Tower of London, Churchill has been executed; the Nazis are everywhere, but the various factions are in a silent war against each other.
With Huth desperate for the atomic secrets, will the showdown at Bringle Sands end in triumph for Archer and the Resistance or will Kellermann have the last laugh? But there are others working in hope, in secret, and desperate danger, against the degihton.
This book is definitely recommended to anyone who would like a view of Britain under German rule. Amazon Second Chance Pass it on, trade it in, give it a second life. By having the Germans kill him while attempting to escape, the resistance made a martyr of the King. Not the first, but one of the first.

The quality of the writing is generally high although see the section on point of view below. The novel’s title refers to the branch of the Nazi SS that controls Britain. The final hundred pages are an absolute joy to read lem nothing short of a masterpiece.
